What Is a Slot?

Slot

A slot is a pre-defined authorization for aircraft to land or take off at a particular airport. This authorization is used to manage air traffic, as it prevents repeated delays caused by multiple flights.

Definition

A Slot is a narrow opening that can be a notch, depression, groove, or slit. It is used in a variety of ways, including for receiving things and in aircraft wings to let air flow over them.

Slot Functions

A slot function is a static or virtual function, a Lambda expression, or a member function of a class. It emits a signal, and when the signal is received or transmitted, it connects a new slot to the object that has the signal. It can also have a variable number of arguments, which is useful when triggering signals from other classes.

Synonyms of Slot

A synonym of a slot is a word or phrase that describes the same location, but with more specific terms. For example, a slot for the city of New York might include synonyms “Big Apple” and “New York City.” Using synonyms helps Architect better understand intent when mapping.

Content Types and Slots

Slots are equivalent to content types, and they have similar attributes, keywords, and choosers. They can be added to a page or an application and can be used for different purposes, including storage of custom data structures. They can also contain other elements, such as images or audio files.
