Poker is a card game where players place bets on the outcome of a hand. The game is usually played with one or more players and a dealer, and is governed by a set of rules. A player’s success at the game depends on a combination of chance, psychology, and game theory.<\/p>\n
The cards are shuffled and then dealt to the players, one at a time, starting with the person to the left of the dealer. The first betting interval, or round, begins with a player placing a bet of one or more chips into the pot. Then the player to his or her left can either call that bet, putting in an amount equal to or higher than the previous player’s raise, or drop (fold).<\/p>\n
A poker hand can consist of any five card combinations of rank and suit. The highest card determines the value of the hand. For example, a straight contains any five cards that are in consecutive order and all are from the same suit. A flush consists of any five cards that are all the same rank but do not necessarily follow in order and a pair consists of two matching cards, one higher than the other.<\/p>\n
