15th August is a historical day for India. It is our Independence day. This day after a long and hard struggle, India won freedom from the clutches of the Britishers. It was a unique war of non-violence which was led by great leaders, like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and many more. Also It was a mass movement in which common people took an active part. It was a result of the sacriﬁce of selﬂess leaders and people, who dedicated their lives for future generations.
On 15th August 1947, the nation celebrated its ﬁrst independence day. It was a day of rejoicing and pride. Our ﬁrst Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru hoisted the national ﬂag from the ramparts of the Red Fort in Delhi. This was the dawn of a new era. Therefore it was a promise of progress and prosperity.
The Independence day since than is celebrated every year all over the country. On this day, the sky is ﬁlled with the tricolor ﬂags. Like thousands of rainbows, the ﬂags ﬂew in the sky over lofty buildings. Almost every institution, school, oﬃce and college celebrates the ﬂag hoisting ceremony.

Celebration of Independence day
In our school everybody is very excited about this day. Though it is National holiday still we will have to go to school for hosting the ﬂag. On previous day all arrangements are done by students & teachers for this day. Our school is painted & decorated by festoon so it looks very beautiful. Various programmers are arranged by students. All students reach to school early in the morning before 70’Clock in clean & well ironed white uniform. The Principal or sometimes the chief guest who is invited to hoists the National ﬂag. As the ﬂag is hoisted every one salute it & National anthem is sung.
After ﬁnishing the National anthem various programs begin. Principle & Chief guest deliver speech. Students also deliver speeches relating with importance of the day. Some of them are related to the martyrs who’ve sacriﬁced their lives for our independence, some of them are related to various national issues. At that time we are also over whelmed by the sense of patriotism and we also feel to do something for our country.
The patriotic songs that are sung by the students get the crowd so excited that even they starts singing. The atmosphere is very charged up. The NCC cadet’s show their excellence in drill through their parade. Many other kinds of demonstrations by the student are also held.
The school authorities distribute sweets to all the students in this way we sum up our National Festival. I like the Independence Day very much & I feel proud to be an Indian.
